formula for success

so i have been giving jimmy more formula as per the ped, and he has been such a different kid. he has been easier to get down for a nap, has been staying asleep better/longer (he was going down for a nap or for the night and waking up 15 minutes or half an hour later), and has just been happier overall. perhaps i was not producing enough milk, though he was seemingly content to suck on the boob and not cry for more afterward, even though he was probably hungry :( i'm thinking i might wean him when i go back to work in sept. please don't judge me for it (well you can, but do it secretly), it seems to be what will work better for us. then again, who knows? maybe jimmy is better this week because he is just getting older and therefore chilling out.

i am fine on weekends when i can sleep in, but monday through thursday when i have to get up for summer school, it SUCKS getting up at 6:30 when i've had only 2-3 hours sleep at a stretch since 11 the night before. on the weekends i tend to be better able to handle jimmy being fussy or not wanting to sleep. i'm trying to be more carefree about everything and just enjoy being a mama.

sorry to be so wordy, but i also have to add that jimmy made his first trip into brooklyn yesterday to meet my dad's side of the family, the other sicilians. it was awesome. he was the cutest thing, he cooed (how the hell do you spell that? cood? nothing looks right) and laughed and smiled at everyone. what a charmer. he did yell a bit in the car on the way there and back but otherwise he was fantabulous

ha! i laugh in the face of your schedules! (7/26-8/3)

as jimmy sits and coos at his bear friends in his bouncy seat, i will attempt to recount the last week or so of his sleep (and life, i guess, since he spends a lot of time sleeping or trying to sleep). so before we went to new hampshire for the weekend (8/1-8/3), jimmy had gotten back into his routine of sleeping for 6-7 hours overnight, then his morning short nap, a long midday nap and a short evening nap. then we went to new hampshire and sleeping in the car and a horrible gas issue friday night really threw him right off. he did sleep for 7.5 hours friday night, but then had another horrible gas fit saturday morning, then refused to sleep more than 20-45 minutes before finally passing out at 10 and sleeping until 4. he then took a 3 hour nap in the car on the way home, but didn't fall asleep for the night until freaking 12 am. he did sleep until 630 though. today he took a morning nap and then a ridiculously long 5 hour afternoon nap. yeah, that was probably because he was in his swing. aargh. now (an hour and a half after i started writing this, heh) he is fussy and acting tired but refusing to fall asleep. oy.

he is a wonderful kid when awake. not that he is not wonderful asleep, he just seems to have so many issues settling himself down and soothing himself. i wish he would just fall asleep on his own and not need all these conditions (swaddling, sucking, rocking, etc.) to all be just right in order to fall asleep. i'm sure that sounds selfish but when i hear friends talking about how their baby falls asleep anywhere, doing anything, i get jealous.
